Sustainability Movement, the education and awareness program of Green Leaders NGO, has made a profound impact on students, teachers, and communities. This campaign is the result of collaboration with the Center for Green Schools at USGBC and partnerships with corporates (DAR Design Offices) and MENA Green Building Councils. Together, they have strengthened the program, engaging over 1,200 teachers and 90,000 students in hands-on Green Apple Day of Service projects, transforming learning environments and fostering environmental stewardship. This initiative empowers students, educators, parents, and extended communities to adopt sustainable practices, ensuring a deep understanding of energy efficiency, water conservation, air quality, and circular economy while addressing pollution, carbon emissions, and global warming on a broader scale.
Participants engage in hands-on, innovative sustainability solutions, including energy utilization and passive design, solar passive cooling experiments, water audits, classroom air quality monitoring, and recycling & upcycling activities. The program also highlights the green schools movement, emphasizing the importance of healthy classrooms where indoor air quality, thermal comfort, and daylight access contribute to student well-being and performance. Schools, as central hubs of learning, can influence sustainability beyond their walls by embedding environmental awareness into education and daily operations. The campaign also includes a teacher training program, equipping educators with a solid foundation in sustainability to continue inspiring future generations. To support this, a Green Schools Teacher Guideline Pocket Guide has been developed, providing educators with essential sustainability principles in a concise, accessible format. Another key aspect of the program is the Green Champion Challenge, where students team up to compete in developing innovative sustainability solutions, encouraging leadership, teamwork, and critical thinking in environmental stewardship. Through collective action, the campaign continues to inspire future generations to embrace sustainability, making schools a cornerstone for environmental responsibility and a driving force for broader community transformation. By engaging students in meaningful sustainability initiatives, the program is cultivating eco-conscious leaders who are prepared to lead climate action and drive lasting environmental change.
